Cookies and Local Storage

The app keeps you signed in by storing a secure session token in your device's protected keychain (Secure Store). It also stores local preferences on your device — such as your chosen language, onboarding state, a draft route, and a cache of nearby map tiles — so the app works smoothly and offline. This information stays on your device and is essential to the app.

The Scouttt website uses a small number of strictly necessary cookies: an authentication/session cookie to keep you signed in, and a language-preference cookie (NEXT_LOCALE) to remember your chosen language. We do not set advertising cookies on the website.

The mobile app offers optional rewarded video ads through Google AdMob that you can choose to watch to earn gems. To deliver, cap and measure those ads and to prevent ad fraud, AdMob uses your device advertising identifier and stores small amounts of data on your device. On iOS we show Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, and in the EU/EEA/UK we ask for your consent, before any personalised ads; if you decline, you may still see non-personalised ads. The website shows no ads.

We use Sentry for error and crash monitoring, configured not to collect personal data. We do not use Google Analytics or web advertising pixels. Aside from Google AdMob in the mobile app (above), we do not use behavioural ad networks. Other providers we rely on are described in our Privacy Policy.

The cookies and on-device storage the website and app need to function are strictly necessary, so no consent banner is required for them under EU law. For transparency the website still shows a short cookie notice on your first visit; dismissing it only records that you have seen it (stored in your browser's local storage) and sets no additional cookies. Advertising is different: before showing personalised ads in the app we ask for your consent (and use Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt on iOS). If we ever introduce non-essential analytics or website tracking, we will ask for your consent first.

You can clear the app's stored data from your device settings, or clear cookies in your browser. Doing so will sign you out and reset local preferences. Deleting your account removes your data as described in the Privacy Policy.
